And Now, A Word From Our Sponsors...

Sponsorship is unique. Unlike soft drink bottlers and makers of barbecue sauce, we at Children International have no secret formulas to protect. Instead, the key to our success is well known: our sponsors.

Every time we help a needy child, a sponsor is involved. Every time a poor child receives an education that would otherwise be out if his or her reach, you can be sure a sponsor is behind the scenes. So, since you are such a vital part of our operation, we'd like to hear from you today.

Why not chime in by posting a comment and sharing your favorite sponsorship experience? We'd love to hear about what makes sponsoring a child memorable to you!

Its hard for me to say there is one favorite sponsorship experience as I have 15 sponsored children. I know that some sponsors want more feedback from their sponsored children (at least as evidenced by the Google group comments), but for me, just seeing the smiles on children's faces when they receive a birthday present or additional food and clothing, makes helping them worthwhile.

One of my favorite things has been seeing the relationship develop between my children and their sponsor children. It's amazing how well they relate to each other and how supportive they are of each other. My son considers his sponsor child to be his hero and the feeling is mutual. My daughter and her sponsor child are so affectionate, always telling each other how much they love each other. I can't wait until the day these kids can meet!

I think my favorite moment is the first time I meet a child in person. I've had 15 of those moments so far (10 to go) and it never becomes routine. It's a thrill each and every time.

Even though I've sponsored 5 children with CI this is any easy one. While I often wonder about the 2 children I sponsored from the short-lived Nepal program, and the two others I had to cancel because of my own financial situation (one of those is now 14 and hopefully still enrolled & has a sponsor still), it would be my very first sponsored child Maria from the Philippines, we were only 4 years apart in age so it was basically 2 children writting letters back and forth, we went through 9/11 together through our letters, I shared my sruggles with my time in college while she shared her progress in high school. I sponsored her for 4 1/2 years (99-04) and her "goodbye letter" still makes me tear up whenever I read it... (here's a portion of that letter - no change in spelling or grammer) Time comes that will no longer in be touch with each other but rest assured that I won't forget you. All the things you've sent to me are well taken cared of, because those are the only things that will remind me of you. They'll remind me too tht once i was your sponsored child. God bless us and good luck.

I love whenever I get a reply letter for one special donation. I always make sure the donation is $100 or higher so that I could get pictures and seeing the smiles in their faces is my favorite sponsorship moment. So I have had many of those special moments, but one of them stands out; a special gift I did for one of my filipinas for a new bed. Her big smile has been the biggest I have seen in her, in a picture where she was sitting on her brand new bed.

Each time a letter comes in from our sponsored child in the Phillipines, the whole family reads it and takes time to reflect upon how fortunate we are to live where we do. It's also great to see how our ongoing support and special gifts are used - even if only to buy something we take for granted - like a blanket or dishes. Finally, it's been wonderful to see the progress for our sponsored child over the years as we condiser her to be part of our extended family...
